Mine.

The other night I witnessed the following interaction between Claire and Sylvie as they played together in the bath tub...

Claire: (handing a toy to Sylvie) Say mine.
Sylvie: (taking the toy) Mine.
Claire: No, it's God's.

Claire: (handing a toy to Sylvie) Say mine.
Sylvie: (taking the toy) Mine.
Claire: No, it's Jesus'.

This went on for several minutes as I chuckled outside the bathroom door. :)

Shiawassee hike

Hikes were a little different in Colorado. You can go back and view blog entries from 2008 to 2011 to see some of our hiking experiences in Colorado. Like here: http://andrea-longfamily.blogspot.com/2008/08/august-update.html. Or here: http://andrea-longfamily.blogspot.com/2009/08/claires-first-hike.html. Saginaw isn't known for it's beauty. Oh well. At least we had two of our own little beauties with us to enjoy the warm air.

March???

stomach bug

The stomach bug hit our house last week. Claire got it the worst and took three naps on the day she was sick. One was on the couch. One was on the bathroom floor. And one was here... on the kitchen floor...

Poor thing. I did try to get her to sleep in her bed, but she refused. Sometimes conking on the floor just feels better. (And closer to the bathroom.) :(

Sylvie (and Elise) also got it, but not as bad. Here is Sylvie (before her puking began) showing off her cereal-milk drinking skills. Oh, and I'm still hoping someone invents a wearable puke-bucket for toddlers. Could have used a couple last week.

winter? spring? summer?

It's the middle of March, but we're wearing shorts and flip-flops. In Michigan.

For several days now it has felt like summer, and the forecast for the next several days is for more summertime highs. Although I welcome a warm, sunny breeze as much as the next Michigander in March, I also feel like something isn't right. We should still be having winter. And... who knows... maybe winter isn't finished yet and another spring snowstorm is around the corner.

Time will tell. In the meantime, here are some winter pictures from just a couple of weeks ago while at Crooked Lake. Today played with bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Two weeks ago we built a snowman.

growing up

Sylvie will be 17 months old tomorrow, and yesterday she FINALLY started walking. She's actually been able to walk since mid-December, but would only take 3-4 wobbly steps before sitting down. Somehow she gained a little confidence yesterday and began practicing her steps without any prompting. Now she's walking as much if not more than she's crawling. Here's a clip from today...

And this is new for Claire this week...

Her first people drawings! Adorable potato-head faces! And some with legs growing out of their chins. Too sweet.

And this beauty is just getting older. There's no denying she's becoming more aware, more responsible, more thoughtful, more wonderful every single day.
